A lucid dream is a type of dream in which the dreamer becomes aware of the fact that they are dreaming. In this state, dreams feel vivid and real. These dreams may also grant the dreamer control of how their dream plays out.

Lucid dreams are most likely to occur during the rapid eye movement (REM) stage of the sleep cycle, this stage is marked by deep sleep, random eye movements, faster breathing and increased brain activity.

Some scientists describe lucid dreaming as a ‘between state’ where one is neither awake nor asleep.

Using your favourite song to induce lucid dreaming can be achieved through four simple steps-

1) Pick a song that is neither too energetic nor too relaxing. This song should be something you listen to frequently and would recognize if it were playing anywhere.

2) Start using the song as an alarm to wake you up in the morning. This step might be painful for some as they can’t bear the thought of associating their favourite song to their least favourite thing to do in the morning, but this is necessary so that the brain starts relating the song to wakefulness.

3) After using the song as an alarm, set the song to automatically play at a low volume while you are asleep.

4) Hearing the song at night would make your brain associate it to waking up which should lead to you entering a lucid dreaming state.

This method has been proven to be the most successful method of lucid dreaming. Even though it is the most difficult method. It has also been advised by researchers to not use the same song repeatedly as the brain might get used to it and stop responding to the song. To avoid this, put your playlist on shuffle or keep adding new songs to it.

As someone who makes up scenarios in my head with awesome background music, lucid dreaming to your favourite song is actually a lot cooler and I hope you all try out this method soon!
